Dr. Robin Van Metre VMD • Working Dog Practitioner

Dr. Robin Van Metre is an experienced emergency veterinarian with over 25 years in practice. She holds a specialty degree as a Working Dog Practitioner from the University of Pennsylvania and is a lead instructor for K9 MEDIC, teaching first aid to first responders for prehospital emergency care. Dr. Van Metre actively supports local law enforcement, search and rescue, and EMS teams, providing field training support in Northern Colorado and nationwide.

She is a major contributor to VEMS (Veterinary Emergency Medical Services), helping organize and implement one of the nation’s first EMS prehospital programs to treat and transport injured K9s as provided by the Pre-Veterinary Care Act (CO Senate Bill 14-039). Dr. Van Metre practices at Wellington Veterinary Hospital, where she has cultivated specialty services for working dogs and handlers. She is a consulting member of several veterinary organizations including VETCOT, VATLS, K9 TECC, NASAR, and IWDA. Dr. Van Metre (along with K9 MEDIC) is credited with publishing Intervention for Choking in an Unconscious Dog: XXT, a widely used resource for both handlers and pet owners.
