I learned to add more of a pause between the mark and reaching for the reward and that really helped fix an issue I was having with my older dog.
She was watching for the movement instead of listening for the mark so she had to see me. Now that she understands she can just listen, I am getting her doing her TFR out of sight, and starting to have her oriented towards source instead of me.
Using the mark to pick out little pieces of the complex behavior I'm training allows me to put more emphasis on parts I want to strengthen and eliminate little behaviors that have crept in that I don't want. I can reinforce any little piece I need to, I don't have to wait for the whole behavior chain to be finished to reward.
